Description
Sexual identity, gender identity and sexual orientation are underresearched domains particularly in the sexually implicit cultural context of Sri Lanka. Compared to the west, Sri Lanka has been a sexually closed culture at least since the advent of British colonialism. Ripples of the sexual revolution, or the liberalization of sexuality related ideology was felt locally once the country was open to the liberal economic policies. Since then, the sexual socialization of adolescents and youth inside the family has changed. Parallel family dynamics, widening generational gap and information revolution have made the sexual identity development inside the family a challenge. Consequently, the sexual identity development inside family probably amounts to be a psychological warfare between adolescents and parents.
